August wrap up, fishing fun with Cast Away Adventures

Summer is wrapping up here in on Florida’s Space coast, and some fun fishing was had. We are fortunate enough to have been able to spend time on the water with some really great folks (job perk). August provided us with some nice weather and good fishing. Of course just like fishing anywhere we had some great days and some slower days, but that is fishing. Either way meeting new people and being on the water is always a great day.
As usual for our lagoon lots of variety of fish hit the boat. Of coarse we always look for the redfish, black drum, snook, snapper and trout. We had success on all of those, but other variety coming up keeps the fishing fun. We had a good jack crevalle bite, lots of fun aerials from ladyfish, some big fights out of large cownose rays, even some jumps out of really large tarpon. Some of the stranger stuff to hit the deck included remora and sea robin, both things we honestly do not see much of in the lagoon. Variety is why I enjoy saltwater fishing so much, big or small there are so many species to keep you catching and it makes is that much more fun for kids and families. Some of the smaller stuff that we regularly were catching included grunt, whiting, silver and sand trout, pinfish and puffer.

Fishing and so much more!
As much as I enjoy fishing, there is so much more when spending a day on the boat in the Cocoa beach and space coast area. You just never know what you may see.
Our wildlife was active. The dolphins and manatees were everywhere this month. Man babies of both were spotted hanging with mama. Large mating groups of manatee provided are guests with a show, this is the only time they are very active and coming up out of the water. I even saw a full size manatee, full body jump like a dolphin out of the water. Honestly I been seeing manatee my whole life and did not know that was even possible. The gators were fairly abundant and a regular sighting. Of course our many species of birds are always around. We witnessed some big jumps from both cownose rays and spotted eagle rays. Some wild boar even made a few appearances along the shorelines.
Summer may be wrapping up but fishing fun is not.
As we roll into Florida fall it is a really great time to be on the water, heck just to be in the Cocoa Beach area for that matter. The town becomes slower and more relaxed, the weather becomes nicer (sans hurricanes, cross fingers) and the fall fishing is good. Snook season opens, fall redfish run nears and in general just a great time to be fishing.
If you are going to be in the Cocoa beach, Florida space coast or Orlando area this fall make sure to spend some time on the water. Give Cast Away Adventures a shout and book your day.
